I designed and animated a conceptual poster advertising a fictional theatre’s show schedule. The name of each show is a punny reference to an article of pop culture- which I had a lot of fun brainstorming.
This work was featured in a student showcase, by nomination from one of my professors during my time at WSUV.
Fun Facts and Lore
The name “Brycse” is a nod to the LEGO theme I embraced while brainstorming this idea. Pronounced “bricks” like LEGO bricks, but spelled oddly so it looks more like a name, as if Brycse was the owner or founder of the theatre.
The particular spelling of the name also pays homage to my Instagram name “Eclypse_SiTH” and references my background in creating LEGO content as my first drive for using social media.
All the assets of the LEGO minifigures were created by image-tracing real LEGOs I had built, posed, and photographed myself. The original image traces were later edited for colour and shape correction.
Brainstorming the Names
It didn’t take me too long to brainstorm each unique name for the made up shows and musicals. Since I had more creative freedom with this project, I experimented with how far I could push the absurdity of what shows or media would be best adapted to musical format.
Hence we arrive at the desired satirical concepts for the shows: Mortal Kombat (The Musical), Skater Girl (The Musical: on ice!), Pery Hatter (The Musical), Teenage Mut4nt Ninja (The Musical), Space Trek Wars (The Musical), and The Name’s Bond (The Musical).
How It Was Made
The background and each of the seven unique characters were all photographed and vectorised by me. One of the more challenging aspects of this project for me was finding music published under Creative Commons licensing that fit the theme and quality of the project I was reaching for.
During this time I discovered Scott Buckley, namely his song Three Sheets to the Wind. His site has been my favourite stop for CC music ever since.
